A Good Cause Is Good for the Heart.

We started Raw Fusion Foods for the chance to do good and make people healthier. Last month I got to personally do something about it, and it felt great! On September 8, Raw Fusion was blessed to help sponsor the Sixth Annual Sydney Coxon Memorial Golf Tournament in Everett, WA. Each year this event benefits pediatric brain tumor research at Children’s Hospital in Seattle. This year’s tourney was a huge success, raising nearly $75,000.

I was so busy meeting and talking to people that I forgot to get a picture of myself at the event, but more importantly I did take this photo of all the wonderful and energetic young volunteers I met from the Pink Polka Dot Guild who helped make the whole thing happen. Perhaps the most heartwarming thing about this photo is that you’ll notice some fresh new faces that will keep the Guild going in the years to come.

The Pink Polka Dots Guild was started in 2006 to in honor of Sydney Coxon, who sadly fell victim to a brain tumor at the age of 11. (The organization takes its name from pink polka dots – one of Sydney’s favorite things.) Since then the guild has raised about $475,000 for pediatric brain tumor research. If you would like to get involved or donate to the Pink Polka Dots Gild, please visit their website at http://www.pinkpolkadotsguild.net/p/get-involved.html. We all have special causes, because of the people we know and love, that personally resonate with us – this is definitely one of mine. Causes don’t get more important than fighting childhood cancer.Cancer is always a very serious subject, but the good news is that we can learn to eat smarter, especially raw foods, and maybe better our odds. A 2009 study by the American Dietary Association found vegetarians tend to have a lower body mass and lower overall cancer rates. According to the American Cancer Society, about one-third of the 572,000 cancer deaths in the U.S. each year are linked to poor diet, physical inactivity, and being overweight. The ACS says making “healthy food choices with a focus on plant-based foods” is one of the most important things you can do to reduce your cancer risk.

Beyond the obvious health benefits, the most important thing for people to realize about eating raw foods is just how easy it is to start adding them into your everyday eating habits and slowly ease your way into a significantly healthier lifestyle. I sincerely hope that you share the information we post here at Raw Fusion with the people you care most about in life, and that it helps make a difference in yours.
